Our Ethics

People & Planet

We want all Eartha & Wolf jewellery to reflect our values. So our decisions are guided by the belief that their provenance should be as beautiful and considered as the pieces themselves. Our commitment to ethical jewellery practices starts with people. Everyone who helps create Eartha & Wolf jewellery, from the miners to the artisans, should benefit from their contribution. We invest in specific projects and processes to ensure the people we work with are treated fairly.

In practice, this means going beyond choosing suppliers by reputation alone. We do our own due diligence to ensure conditions are as we expect. This hands-on approach helps us build a small network of partners, enjoying close, trusting relationships with people who share our values.

Right now, we are working on some exciting initiatives. For instance, we have begun to source some of our gemstones from a UK-based supplier who reinvests a portion of all profits back into their own mine in Madagascar, supporting the workers and the local communities. We also prioritise working with female miners and craftspeople, supporting equality and opportunities within the industry.

Materials & Practices

Sustainability is a non-negotiable facet of modern jewellery production. Ethical fine jewellery can and should be a given. We choose environmentally conscious materials wherever possible, infusing our pieces with a sense of respect and care from the very beginning.

We love recycling old-cut diamonds and recut or re-polished gemstones in our designs. This approach is both sustainable and a way to give a second life to these storied, hand-cut stones.

In addition to using recycled gold, we are committed to working with SMO (Single Mine Origin) and fairtrade gold where possible, while always offering our customers a choice of materials and price points.

We support local manufacture and independent businesses, making our jewellery primarily made in London with some elements crafted elsewhere in the UK.

A beautifully made piece of jewellery is one that will survive for generations to come - just look at our own antique jewellery curation for proof! By nature, vintage and antique jewellery has the smallest environmental footprint of all. By restoring and remodelling antique jewellery we keep precious materials and pieces in circulation, reducing the need for new resources.

Our commitment to sustainability extends to our packaging. Our jewellery boxes are made from offcuts of the leather industry, recycled wood and board, all crafted in a solar-powered factory outside the UK. Even our ribbon is crafted from recycled plastic bottles!

Looking Forward

We are under no illusions that our work is ever ‘done’ when it comes to crafting ethical fine jewellery. The jewellery industry may be based on age-old traditions, but it is also ever-evolving, seeking and embracing positive change.

As we engage with suppliers, artisans and industry experts, we are continually learning. Whether new projects, processes or materials, we are always open to new ideas to push our practices forward. For instance, we are currently in the process of obtaining membership with the Responsible Jewellery Council (RJC) and are developing a range of jewellery crafted purely from SMO gold.

We always want to be honest about what we have achieved, and where we want to go further. We are proud of the steps we have taken so far and excited about the possibilities for the future. Whenever we have news or projects to share you will hear it here, or on our social media and newsletter.
